That's when we decided to trot over to some pub around Suntec. Paulaner's should be full by then, coz we were like an hr and a half away from the kickoff. Nevertheless, we still headed over and picked our chances.
True enough, Paulaner's was filled. Next stop was Oscar's Sidewalk Terrace just next to Paulaner's. It's a 24hrs restaurant/pub that has 2 32" plasma TVs mounted on the walls. Football package there cost $25+++ for 2 standard drinks. To make the money worth, and in the true Singaporean spirit, ordering alcohol seemed to be the best choice out of the whole menu. Well, we can order iced latte to last through the night, but the price and item just can't seem to match up. But we didn't feel like having alcohol that night. And also, the manager seemed less than friendly towards us, so that's another reason for us not to stay.
Gladly, we found another place (wif big screens and cheap drinks) to catch the match that night. We went over to überburger of which i later realised that they are infamous for their $101 burger. Anyway, there are mixed reviews for the foods there. One such is from Galinusa. Was there for drinks this time round, so can't really comment much. I would say their menu is innovative. Coz they spelt out the price in the way one would read it, and also wif a little more creative touch to it. (eg 4teen$ for $14, ate$ for $8, etc) I must say the restaurant is spacious, has a open-kitchen concept where u can see the chef behind the glass window
So anyway, we reached in time for the kickoff. Ordered our drinks and settled down for the match. Somehow, was glad that I caught this match live. (despite having to wake early later) Kudos to the camera crew who caught many interesting scenes. Besides the goal footages from many angles, there was one where it showed the unfortunate Swedish player who was sent off after 2 yellow cards. One of the camereman caught the scene and it was played back in slow-mo where the referee broke out in an evil grin as he fished out the red card from his pocket.
Too bad, this is the only picture i can find. There were also many shots of the highly animated German coach, Kilnsmann, whom we saw was in many states of anxiety and euphoria throughout the game when the team scored early in the 1st half and the subsequent near-miss encounters for the rest of it.
The Sweden coach/manager, on the other hand, was less happy. Quite due to the fact that his team din manage to score despite the many attempts.
There's another (no photos unfortunately) funny incident that was caught on tape too. Metzelder, the German defender, didn't realised that he dropped one shoe and and continued play. A Swedish player saw the shoe and went up to kick it away. Yup, all that caught on film by one of the vigilant cameraman.
Somehow, I can't help by feel that the referee's a little biased towards Sweden. Seems that he's faulting Sweden more than Germany. That aside, it was a good game and I'm glad that I caught one match live for once.
